Polypropylene (PP)

It is a thermoplastic polymer that has a very wide area of use from the parts used in the automotive industry to the packaging of textile items and food. Polypropylene, which is obtained by polymerizing monomer propylene is extremely resistant against solvents (acids and bases).  PP is a semi-solid, transparent, easily shaped and non-expensive polymer that is produced through propylene polymerization. Propylene is monomer and it is obtained from petroleum. Atactic, isotactic and syndiotactic PP can be prepared with different properties. The glassy transition temperature of isotactic PP is around -10°C and its melting temperature is around 160 °C. As its melting point is low, it can be used at low temperatures such as 90-110°C interval. It can resist to temperatures around 140°C if not loaded. Its crystal ratio varies between 60-70%, it is the lightest thermoplastic with a density value between 0.90-92 g/cm³. PP has good chemical resistance. Whereas it is resistant against visible region rays, UV-rays deforms the surfaces of materials that are made of PP. Oxidation of polymer increases with heat, and the carbon black, which is added to it for preventing oxidation, accelerates the thermal ageing of polymer. It is impacted by chlorine, nitric acid and other strong oxidizers. It can be burned but it burns slowly. It is non-poisonous. It has good thermal resistance when modified appropriately. It is used by “chrome plated”, injection or bloating molding and extrusion. Some of its important features are stated below.

PP TYPES:
PP has three types.
1. Polypropylene homopolymer.
2. Polypropylene block copolymer.
3.The most important feature of polypropylene random copolymer Ppr is that it can be used in sanitary installations as well as hot water installations.
